The Executive Director, Category Management manages our Supplier Category Management function across all suppliers spend activities of Deluxe. The leader manages a team of Category Management experts who serve as “Deal Makers” driving complex strategic sourcing initiatives for finding, selecting, negotiating and purchasing products and services at the best price with the best supplier(s). Key aspects of the role is to oversee and assess Deluxe’s ~$1 B in supplier spend and develop line of sight for targeted savings initiatives and cultivate a team of deal leaders who design and manage sourcing opportunities and drive strategic sourcing initiatives for financial and services improvements. Maintain accountability for sourcing wave projects, strategic approaches to the marketplace, overall spend reductions and sophisticated approaches to supplier services and contracting providing the best financial and services outcomes. 

Accountabilities:

  • Proactive leadership and management with cross-functional partners to effectively develop sophisticated spend analytics resulting in sourcing waves that drive savings through strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Designs an approach to the marketplace. Manages a team with deep category expertise through understanding and application of industry developments, marketplace trends, emerging technology, new techniques, leading practices, and shared experiences. Oversee sourcing globally to explore all relevant options and best possible contractual outcomes.
  • Build, develop, and manage team of direct and indirect Category Managers engaged in end-to-end strategic sourcing activities, cost savings across the enterprise, and negotiation strategies
  • Manage and lead technology, team and processes in all sourcing activities, including RFI/RFP development and implementation.
  • Develop risk- and probability-adjusted multi-year savings forecasts and annual savings goals
  • Executes Deluxe standard and quality contracting materials
  • Drive change and behavior through influence

Basic Qualifications:     

  • Bachelor’s in Business, Supply Chain, Project Management, IT or a related field
  • 8 years of procurement or supply chain experience
  • Experience working with Executive Leaders and Sr Leadership

Preferred Qualifications:     

  • Master’s in Business, Supply Chain, Project Management, IT or a related field
  • 10 years of procurement or supply chain experience
  • 5 years of management experience

  • Business Acumen: A keen awareness and ability to navigate and manage business relationships.  Expertise in cross-functional partnership with the ability to proactively drive solutions with other business leaders and executives to leverage best in class solutions
  • Category Management: Expert in creating and managing complex category strategies leveraging enterprise opportunities within the business 
  • Cost & Price Management: Expert in managing and understanding market trends, pricing and cost structures
  • Legal & Contractual: Expert in writing, interpreting and executing complex supplier contract terms and conditions and SLA’s
  • Negotiation: Expert in negotiations with strong planning and execution with both suppliers and business leaders. Expertise in reviewing personal and team negotiation performance and influencing negotiation outcomes.
  • Project Management: Extensive experience managing executive level projects and programs with key stakeholders
  • Risk & Compliance: Expert in identifying, analyzing and assessing supplier and business risk throughout the global supply chain
  • Sourcing: Extensive experience partnering with internal executives and business leaders to segment and manage supplier relationships. Proactively identifying and executing procurement opportunities and strategies with executives and senior leaders to leverage enterprise solutions
